Wie wird sich eine mögliche EU-Mitgliedschaft Zyperns auf den lange währenden Konflikt der Insel auswirken? Könnte sie für dessen Lösung hilfreich sein? Wissenschaftler aus der Türkei, aus Griechenland, aus den beiden Teilen der Insel sowie Zypernexperten aus Europa und den USA berieten diese und andere Fragen während eines vom genannten Zentrum im April 1998 in Bonn organisierten Workshops. Dabei berücksichtigten sie auch Auswirkungen auf die Sicherheitsfragen und das wirtschaftliche Wohlergehen der Zyprioten. Die Entscheidung auf dem Luxemburger Gipfel 1997, Zypern in die EU aufzunehmen, haben der internationalen Vermittlung Auftrieb gegeben, um den Friedensprozess wieder in Gang zu setzen.
