Magisterarbeit. - Diese im Rahmen eines dreimonatigen Praktiums bei der Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Zimbabwe entstandene Studie beschäftigt sich mit dem Wandel der sozialen und rechtlichen Stellung von Frauen in ländlichen Shona-Gesellschaften Zimbabwes. Neben der Analyse von Einflußfaktoren auf den Status von Frauen in historischer Perspektive richtet die Autorin den Blick auf die Entwicklungspraxis im Bereich nicht-formaler Bildung von zwanzig NGOs und fragt nach dem Beitrag der jeweiligen Programme für ein Empowerment von Frauen.
