Die Festschrift zu Ehren des langjährigen Direktors des Stockholmer Instituts für internationale Friedensforschung beruht auf einer Kooperation zwischen dem Institut für Friedensforschung und Sicherheitspolitik an der Universität Hamburg und dem Institut für internationale Angelegenheiten des polnischen Außenministeriums. Im einführenden Teil beschäftigen sich die Autoren insbesondere mit der Bedrohung durch den internationalen Terrorismus, auch in Zusammenhang mit der Verbreitung von Massenvernichtungswaffen, sowie den Anti-Terrorstrategien der USA und Russlands. Im zweiten Abschnitt geht es um die neuen Herausforderungen für die Friedensforschung und die Konzepte internationaler Sicherheit. Im Einklang mit dem langjährigen Wirken Rotfelds sind die abschließenden Kapitel dem Problemfeld der Rüstungskontrolle und den sicherheitspolitischen Aufgaben der EU und NATO gewidmet. Die Herausforderungen für diese beiden Organisationen werden dabei sowohl aus transatlantischer Sicht als auch aus der Perspektive Polens, Russlands und der Ukraine beleuchtet.
